ASA and ABS are durable, UV-resistant, and heat-tolerant materials — ideal for outdoor parts, enclosures, or functional prototypes. But printing them successfully requires a few key adjustments to avoid common issues like warping, layer separation, and poor bed adhesion.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to print ASA and ABS on the Bambu Lab P1S and X1 Carbon, both of which are enclosed printers that support high-temp materials.
These filaments are prone to warping because they shrink significantly as they cool. Without a consistent, warm ambient environment, the bottom layers can detach from the bed or crack between layers. Unlike PLA, they require higher bed temps and controlled airflow.


Both printers include a basic enclosure, which is essential for:
Trapping heat
Preventing drafts
Maintaining ambient temperature (~40–50°C inside the chamber)
Use the Textured PEI Plate or Engineering Plate with glue stick or adhesive aid.
TIP: Avoid using the Cool Plate. It doesn't retain enough heat and may cause warping.
ABS: 100–110°C
ASA: 90–100°C
Make sure the bed is preheated for several minutes before starting the print.
While the P1S and X1C don’t have active chamber heating, their enclosure helps retain enough ambient heat for success with ASA and ABS.
To optimize your print:
Turn off cooling fans (except for bridging layers)
→ Set Layer Fan to 0–10%
First layer height: 0.2 mm for better bed adhesion
Brim or raft: Add a brim of 5–10 lines to help prevent corner lifting
Slow down first few layers: Start at 20–30 mm/s
You can modify Bambu Studio’s “Generic ABS” or “Generic ASA” profiles to match these values, or create your own.
Use a glue stick, ABS slurry, or Magigoo on the plate
Clean the plate with IPA between prints
Preheat the chamber for 5–10 minutes before starting large parts
Don’t print with the front door open — heat loss causes warping
Avoid running the part cooling fan unless needed for small bridges
Don’t use textured plates without adhesive — ASA/ABS may pull off the surface
If you have a Bambu Lab P1S, installing the optional side panel upgrade will improve temperature stability. This helps the P1S match the performance of the X1C for ABS and ASA printing.
