ASA can be considered the true successor to ABS. Compared to ABS, it is not sensitive to UV rays, it does not suffer too much from shrinkage, and the fumes produced are much less noticeable.
Thanks to its high thermal resistance of up to 93°C, ASA is an excellent choice for parts subjected to thermal stress. For example, the fan shroud of the Original Prusa i3 MK3S is now made of ASA material.
ASA is suitable for projects where you need a smooth surface similar to one treated with automotive paint. However, this results in a loss of fine detail and rounds off sharp edges.
Thanks to its UV stability, ASA is an ideal choice for outdoor use. The material will retain its strength and durability for a long time and will not yellow.

The solidification temperature is also higher compared to PLA and PETG, giving ASA-printed objects excellent temperature resistance – there is no sign of warping up to temperatures close to 93°C. Thanks to all these properties, ASA is particularly well-suited for printing objects intended for long-term outdoor use.
However, you may still encounter some issues related to material warping – especially when printing large models. Even with the heated bed set to 110°C, prints can shrink and warp, causing them to detach from the print bed. Nevertheless, the effects are much less pronounced than with ABS. This problem can be mitigated by printing in a confined space or adding a high skirt around the object.
